Legend tells that a long time ago in ancient China there lived a sage who could foretell the future. At the age of 22 he took a vow of silence, and rather than speak of the visions, he preferred to show peoples’ fortunes through art. All that he painted seemed to come true in due time. As the centuries passed and known predictions were fulfilled, his works became slowly forgotten. Only a handful of them have survived, scattered across rural China.…
Until the year 2022, when Baiwei — a nomadic crypto artist who had spent the last decade traveling across China — stumbled upon a set of peculiar ancient landscapes, painted on silken fans. Baiwei not only knew the stories of the Seer Sage, but had secretly studied the knowledge of his lost prophetic art. Thus, he recognized it at once. There was only one thought — was there anything else encrypted in these simple landscapes?
He didn’t see it at first, but the ominous spacecraft-like objects suspended above landscapes clearly indicated a devastating event. And so, as January turned to February, and a brief respite in April gave way to May and June, Baiwei’s occasional crypto trending checkups revealed an astonishing connection to the ancient artworks. He had made an unbelievable observation: the Seer Sage had foretold the crypto Bear Market of 2022!
Baiwei set out at once to recreate these artifacts in a digital form, then sealed and signed them with cryptic calligraphy. Now, the record of the ancient crypto-prophecies is safe forever on the blockchain.

About the speakers:
Baiwei(白尾) is a wandering crypto artist, data contemplator, and generative zen appreciator, explorer of artistic dialogue, and synthesis of East and West.
Georgina Hooper is an Australian artist based on the Sunshine Coast. Her ongoing academic research as a PhD candidate at the University of Queensland, which explores Chinese traditional painting through neuroscience, informs her contemporary practice in painting and NFTs. Cross-cultural fertilization is at the heart of Georgina Hooper’s practice. She is informed by a deep engagement with Eastern artistic traditions and visual language and the philosophies that underpin them.
